Let’s get together and play!
Most of the opportunities we have to connect with each other (trainings, lectures, networking events, etc) are almost always verbal. In order to offer a different alternative, I am organizing a drum circle for therapists of all stripes and orientations.
Why a drum circle?
The goal is to create a space where we can connect with each other non-verbally, in a relaxed environment, through rhythm and creativity. Drumming reduces stress and lowers defenses, aligns mind and body, deepens the sense of connection with self and others, and -as if that wasn't enough- it is fun!
No experience required!
If you have never played drums or touched a percussion instrument, that is perfectly fine. No experience is needed, only your willingness to try, connect, perhaps feel a bit silly, and have fun.
No drum required
If you have a drum and/or any other percussion instruments, please bring them with you. If not, don't worry, they will be provided.
The drum circle will be facilitated by Louise Dimiceli-Mitran, LCPC, MT-BC, GIM, a music and talk therapist who has been facilitating drum circles for over 20 years. She has a great energy and I'm thrilled she agreed to facilitate this event. You can learn more about her at www.louisedmitran.com.
Time and place
We will meet in Lakeview on Friday March 22nd, from 7:00pm to 8:30pm, at Studio for Change (2801 N Sheffield, 2nd floor, on Sheffield and Diversey). Julia Rahn, PhD, founder of Studio for Change, has generously agreed to host.
The suggested donation for this event is $10. All the proceeds will be donated to The Night Ministry, a Chicago-based organization that works to provide housing, health care and human connection to people struggling with poverty or homelessness.
Please note that space is limited. A few people have already confirmed their attendance, but there are still spots open. If you want to join us, please email me at email@example.com.
My hope is that we can repeat this in the future, so feel free to send me an email even if you can't make it on March 22nd. I will keep you posted whenever we do it again.
I hope to see you there!
