How can therapy help?

Sometimes we don't understand the way we feel, think, or behave. We lose our temper more often. We can't leave relationships that we know are toxic. We feel it is almost impossible to deal with uncertainty. We can't seem to be able to deal with life as other people do. We can't stop certain behaviors that we know are destroying our life. We might realize there are parts of ourselves we can't recognize, parts we dislike or even hate.

Sometimes we go through life by inertia, without a clear purpose or feeling stuck. We know we want something different, but don't know what that is or how to get there. We feel trapped by impossible expectations, from others or from ourselves. As a result, we feel like no matter what we do or how we are, we will never be good enough. We may live in shame, believing that if people really knew who we are, they will realize we are impostors unworthy of being loved.

Sometimes we have a really hard time coping with life changes and transitions: a new relationship or one that ends, a new job or one we did not get, your first child or the loss of a loved one. We don't know how to react, what to do, how to feel, who to talk to.

In individual therapy, you will find a space that is yours, where all your thoughts and feelings will be respected, accepted, and welcomed. You will count with someone who will listen to you without any judgements, who will keep your best interest at heart, and offer support and a new perspective. Your therapist will become a witness and companion in your journey to gain awareness, understanding, acceptance, and love for the feelings and experiences that made you who you are. This might seem daunting, but you won’t do it alone. Along with your therapist, you will find new ways to relate to yourself and others, to feel empowered and regain a sense of agency over your life.
